Madison City Council recently passed the Madison Community Center project at a special called meeting. The project is anticipated to take 18 months for complete renovations of the former Three Springs building.
Once complete, the center will provide more space for recreation activities, especially for seniors and the special needs community. The City of Madison's Senior Center programs will operate out of the community center, extending Meals on Wheels to more of Madison's elderly population. The gym will specifically be designed for wheelchair basketball, while also providing a safe space for children with special needs to play. Inclusivity remains the vision for the community center.
The design will also provide more meeting space for organizations and groups such as Wellstone, The American Legion, The National Children's Advocacy Center, The Enrichment Center and more. Hosting meeting space central to Madison residents benefits many agencies looking to make a difference in the community. Meeting rooms will vary in size depending on the needs of the organization utilizing the space.
Specialty rooms for arts, birthday parties or clubs, and a game room are in the design plan as well. The community center will provide ceramics and woodworking rooms, as well as garden space for community members to learn and grow from master gardeners. Residents will also be able to enjoy a quiet courtyard space with picnic tables.
The property provides 30 acres of land for use. Plans include archery, walking trails and more green space.
