NATURE OF WORK
The purpose of Paramedic is the highest level of Emergency Medical Service with responsibility of advance life support. A Paramedic shall oversee the Ambulance and patient care. A Paramedic is licensed by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health, as having successfully completed the appropriate course of instruction and is in substantial compliance with all additional requirements, may render emergency medical care to sick and injured at the scene of an emergency and during transport to a hospital until such time as patient care responsibility can be assumed by hospital personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Training and experience equivalent to:
Must be 18 years of age
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to meet minimum physical fitness standards.
Must have successfully completed a Paramedic course and be licensed by the State of Alabama.
Valid Alabama driver’s license with the ability to be insured by the city’s liability insurance carrier.
Must be able to obtain Alabama Firefighter I/II Certification within 12 months of employment.
