JOB SUMMARY:   This position is responsible for coordinating assigned recreational activities and sporting events.

MAJOR DUTIES:    Coordinates assigned recreation programs, including adult and youth sports programs and/or recreation classes.  Coordinates the recruitment of players; coordinates player drafts; schedules practices and games; schedules officials.  Coordinates the purchase of uniforms and sports equipment.  Prepares information for participants, parents, and coaches.  Unlocks and locks gates for games and practices.  Supervises concession stand operations; grills food for concession stand.   Staffs weekend tournaments.   Oversees fitness classes.   Oversees fitness floor and assists the public as needed.  Maintains program statistical records and prepares related reports. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  18 year or older.  High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience.  Valid Alabama Driver’s license.  Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:     Knowledge of recreation program coordination principles.  Knowledge of sports rules and regulations.  Knowledge of fitness principles and practices.   Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.  Skill in the provision of customer services.  Skill in problem solving.  Skill in prioritizing and planning.  Skill in interpersonal relations.  Skill in oral and written communication.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:   The work consists of related program coordination duties. The variety of functions to be coordinated contributes to the complexity of the position.  The purpose of this position is to coordinate assigned recreation programs. Success in this position contributes to the delivery of quality services to the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:   The work is typically performed while standing or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.  The work is typically indoors and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, and grease. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves. Physical strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation.   Must be willing to work overtime, non-standard work hours, holidays, shifts, and weekends as necessary.  Must be willing to be on-call.
