City of Hoover : Mayor Brocato's Weekly Update For October 28, 2022

From: City of Hoover
November 1, 2022

More than 400 law enforcement officials joined with federal leaders in the City of Hoover this week. They attended the Ransomware Incident Response Training Event hosted by the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI). The training focused on ransomware attacks and cryptocurrencies.

On Tuesday, John K. Tien, Deputy Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, spoke to attendees along with Kimberly Cheatle, Director of the U.S. Secret Service (USSS). The USSS in partnership with the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services operate the NCFI.

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato also addressed the group as did Alabama Congressman Gary Palmer.

This week's training was part of the NCFI's Cyber Games. The competition bolsters multi-jurisdictional collaboration among the national law enforcement community in response to cyber-attack incidents. Incident Response Teams  test their technical investigative skills, working as a multi-agency group and responding to a simulated ransomware attack.
