SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

CRANING TO SEE: Construction remains on schedule for the new Huntsville City Hall as the top and final floor takes shape. Turner Construction says wall framing, mechanical, electrical and plumbing are underway with glass and curtain walls to be installed in the coming weeks. Look for a topping-out celebration in late spring!

ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR

Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley recognized Scott Erwin and Community Development with its Community Partner Award for the City's hard work and dedication to supporting affordable and quality housing opportunities to low-income families. Community Development helps to provide down-payment assistance, co-sponsors home construction projects – and supports infrastructure improvements for Habitat properties in neighborhoods undergoing revitalization. > more

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANTS

The City of Huntsville approved $364,000 in eight grants to help area nonprofits provide services to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The money has been made possible through FY 2022 Emergency Solutions Grants from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. more

CHARGER PEP TALK
Mayor Battle is rooting for coach John Shulman and the UAH Chargers basketball team, who have earned their fifth straight National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament invitation and play on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale against Embry-Riddle. This is the 11th NCAA tournament for UAH since 2010. Go Chargers!

CATCHING THE BIG ONE 

Major League Fishing (MLF) announced Huntsville and the Von Braun Center will be the home of their major tour championship, Redcrest VI, on April 2-6, 2025. The four-day event brings the top anglers to compete on Lake Guntersville for MLF’s most prestigious title and a $300,000 prize. more 

2023 SOUTH'S BEST CITIES  

Readers of Southern Living voted Huntsville as one of 2023 South's Best Cities. The Birmingham-based publication listed two of Alabama's cities and three small towns on its roster: Birmingham and Huntsville, Gulf Shores, Fairhope and Opelika. more 

PUBLIC INFO SESSION WITH HPCAC 

The Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council (HPCAC) will hold its first public gathering this year on Tuesday, March 14, 5:30 p.m. at the North Huntsville Public Library, 3011 Sparkman Drive. HPCAC members will discuss public interactions with police officers. They will provide follow-up, roundtable conversations with police representatives. This is your opportunity to learn more about police engagement and to provide input about local law enforcement.
