Join us this December!

It might be cold outside, but we are staying warm this December in the Children's Department with storytimes, a Gingerbread Challenge, and plenty of great reads that you can check out at hpl.pub/catalog.

Upcoming Storytimes

Baby Sign Time

Saturday, December 2, from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(0-18 mos.) Bring your little ones for an interactive storytime with Miss Kayren one Saturday a month! This program will highlight beginner American Sign Language for toddlers.

Night Owl Storytime

Monday, December 4, from 6-6:30 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(All Ages) Wind down your kiddos before bedtime with an interactive and cozy storytime with our amazing friends from the Alabama Institute of Blind and Deaf, who will be teaching us basic American Sign Language throughout each story.

Tuesday Tunes with Alabama Symphony

Tuesday, December 5, from 9:30-10:15 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Join us for a special storytime with the Alabama Symphony as we read stories and listen to a performance by some of their talented musicians.

Tot Time!

Wednesday, December 6, from 9:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Enjoy a morning of passive educational play perfect for toddlers. Each station will keep little ones and their caregivers engaged while learning simple science, technology, engineering, art, and math concepts.

Miss Mollie’s Musical Storytime

Thursday, December 7, from 9:30-10:15 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Spend your morning with Miss Mollie and her musical instruments accompanied with a story or two.

Pre-K Play

Friday, December 8, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Head on over to the library for an exciting morning of tumbling and jumping in our makeshift play gym.

Book Babies

(0-18 Months) Encourage singing, playing, and socializing with your baby in this intimate storytime with Miss Mary.

(3rd-5th Grade) Join the Kids’ Advisory Board (KAB) for a winter celebration! We’ll have snacks and watch a movie while making crafts to take home and gift to library staff. New members welcome! Apply to be a KAB member at homewoodpubliclibrary.org.

Bake & Make

Tuesday, December 12, from 6-6:30 p.m. on Zoom Meeting

(All Ages) If you enjoy baking and making scrumptious creations, join us for this fun Zoom program! Families will pick up their baking kits at the children’s desk in preparation for the event (baking kits may include items containing gluten, dairy, nut and egg products). Totes To-Go!

Monday, December 18, from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. in the Children’s Department

(All Ages) Pick up a kit to make a fun DIY craft or STEAM activity at home! Take-home kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis and will include instructions and everything you'll need to create your project—beyond basic craft or household supplies (such as scissors, crayons/markers, or glue). No registration required.

Gingerbread Challenge

Wednesday, December 20, from 4-5 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

End of the Year Crochet Circle

Friday, December 29, from 1-2 p.m. in Room 110

(4th-12th Grade) Tweens and teens, welcome to Friday night(day) crochet circle! This is a monthly event where we will sit our chairs in circles, and crochet together. Experienced masters and complete newbies both are both welcome. We will provide all supplies, but you are also welcome to bring any projects you are currently working on.
