7th Annual Homewood Public Library Student Art Contest

Friday, September 1-Saturday, September 30

(K-12th Grade) The Homewood Public Library seeks to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of local Jefferson County students. Students may submit one original work of art produced within the last 12 months. Pieces must be exhibition ready and weigh less than 50lbs. Artwork should be dropped off in the Children's Department by Saturday, September 30, with an entry form attached to the back of the work. Artwork will be judged by a panel of local artists with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners selected for various grade categories (K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th, and 9th,12th). Due to limited space, not all artwork will be selected for display. Accepted entries will be displayed in Homewood Library's Ellenburg Art Gallery during the month of October. (0-18 Months) Babies and caregivers are welcome to a lapsit storytime with Miss Cristina filled early literacy tips, baby-friendly songs, and puppets.

Wee Ones

Tuesdays, September 5-26, from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Lots of dancing and singing will be had with Miss Mary’s storytime perfect for energetic toddlers.

PJ Storytime

Tuesdays, September 5-26, from 6-6:30 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(All Ages) Stop by the library wearing your pajamas before hittin’ the hay for some stories and songs perfect before bedtime with Miss Lauren.

Storypalooza

Wednesdays, September 6-27, from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Join us for a good ol’ time with Miss Aaliyah’s energizing storytime to get everyone ready for the day!

Barks and Books

Wednesdays, September 6-27, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(K-5th Grade) Spend an afternoon with our friends from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society by reading (or just simply hanging out) with some friendly pups!

Stay and Play

Thursdays, September 7-28, from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Fire up your imagination and tinker around with friends for some Loose Parts Play after Miss Erika’s fun-filled storytime!

American Sign Language for Kids

Thursday, September 7, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(K-5th Grade) Learn basic American Sign Language with our friends from the Alabama Institute of Blind and Deaf, which includes fun games and activities perfect for all ages.

Sign Time Storytime

Saturday, September 9, from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium

(Preschool) Bring your little ones for an interactive storytime with Miss Kayren one Saturday a month! This program will highlight beginner American Sign Language for toddlers.

Storywiggles

Monday, September 11, from 9-9:30 a.m. in the West Homewood Senior Center

(Preschool) Start off your week with an off-site storytime with Miss Jaycee at the West Homewood Senior Center one Monday a month where she will be telling entertaining stories with tunes perfectly paired with shakey eggs and/or scarves.

Build It!

Monday, September 11, from 3:30-4 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

(K-5th Grade) Come and join us for an afternoon of building with LEGOS! You’ll get to build with our challenge cards or use your own imagination to come up with your own creations!

Tweens Craft On Homeschoolers

Tuesday, September 12, from 1-2 p.m. in the Round Auditorium

Kids’ Advisory Board (KAB) First Meeting!

(4th-12th Grade) Tweens and teens, welcome to Friday night crochet circle! This is a monthly event where we will sit our chairs in circles, and crochet together. Experienced masters and complete newbies both are both welcome. We will provide all supplies, but you are also welcome to bring any projects you are currently working on.
