Summer Reading 2022: Ocean of Possibilities

Monday, May 23-Sunday, August 7 in the Children’s Department
(All Ages) Summer is finally here, and we are ready to dive into another summer reading program with you! Starting on May 23, come by the Homewood Public Library’s Children’s Department or visit our website at www.homewoodpubliclibrary.org  to sign up for summer reading. Once signed up, come pick up a goodie bag! You’ll receive a calendar reading log to track each day you read or listen to an audiobook. Bring your log to our children’s desk, and for each day you mark off, you will earn an entry in our drawing for a weekly prize! Bon voyage!

LEGO Building Event
Saturday, July 2, from 1-5 p.m. in the Large Auditorium
(All Ages) Join us for an afternoon of creativity and fun with the Magic City LEGO Users Group. Kids, Teens and Adults are welcome to come and build alongside each other. All LEGO bricks will be provided.

SEA a Movie: Shark Tale
Tuesday, July 5, from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Round Auditorium
(All Ages) Join us for a Tuesday morning movie with Shark Tale, featuring a star(fish) studded cast of voices such as Will Smith, Jack Black, and Robert DeNiro just to name a few. Crafts will be made, popcorn will be provided, and laughs will be expected!

Summer Storytime
Wednesday, July 6, 13, and 20, from 10:30-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium
(Preschool) Escape the heat from the playground and join us for a fun storytime with your favorite children’s librarians with engaging and interactive stories and super fun and silly songs.

Sneak Peek Week
Wednesday, July 6, 13, and 20, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Large Auditorium

(All Ages) Sneak Peek weeks are an opportunity for families to preview local extra-curricular programs and activities for kids. Registration required.

Live Animal Show
Thursday, July 7, from 3:30-4:00 p.m. in the Round Auditorium
(K-5 Grade) Spend some time learning about the slithering, scaly, and awesome world of bugs and reptiles. Meeting these live animals will help you discover why it is important to replace fear with knowledge. Join The Science Lady for a super fun animal meet and greet!

ASL for Kids with Miss Kayren
Fridays, July 8-15, Mondays, July 11-18, from 10-11 a.m. in the Round Auditorium
(K-5th Grade) Calling all Kids! Have you ever wanted to learn American Sign Language? You can start by attending classes offered at the Homewood Library. Learn to sign fundamental greetings, the alphabet, days of the week, numbers, and basic sentences relative to ASL. You've never had this much fun learning during "quiet" time. See you there!

Mr. Larry’s Magic Show
Tuesday, July 12, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the Large Auditorium
(All Ages) Abracadabra! Alakazam! Join us for a fun-filled morning with Mr. Larry as he amazes us with magic. You don’t want to miss this MAGIC-al performance!

Storytime at the Park
Thursday, July 14, from 9-9:30 a.m. at Spring Park
(Preschool) Want to enjoy nature and watch your favorite children’s librarians do storytime at the same time? On June 16 and July 14, Summer Storytime will be doing a special outdoor storytime so pack your picnic blankets or mats and enjoy a different scenery. Weather permitting.

Animal Tales
Tuesday, July 19, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the Large Auditorium
(All Ages) Alabama is one of the most biologically diverse states, and our friends from Animal Tales are here to share some of the most interesting and fascinating creatures that swim and roam our waterways.

Build It!
Thursday, July 21, from 3:30-4:00 p.m. in the Round Auditorium
(K-5 Grade) Join us for an afternoon of building with our friends from the Magic City LEGO Users Group!

Water Play Day!
Tuesday, July 26, from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the Library Parking Lot
(All Ages) Join us as we end our summer reading with a SPLASH! We will have a big water slide, kiddie pools, and a special guest from the Homewood Fire Department. We will also have thirst quenching snacks to keep you cool in this heat.

3D Printing with MakerGirl
Wednesday, July 27, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. in the Round Auditorium
Learn and/or improve your digital skills with MakerGirl in this 2-hour session filled with creative and educational concepts in which girls 7-15 can benefit from. Register online at www.homewoodpubliclibrary.org.
