Spotlight of the week

SUMMER READING FUN: Students attending Providence Elementary's summer program asked Mayor Battle to be their featured guest reader for "Read My Shirt" Wednesday. Mayor Battle joined in the fun, reading aloud the slogans and phrases on student's tee shirts before reading them a new book. Mayor Battle emphasized he read a lot of books before he became mayor and that he still enjoys reading every day.

HUNTSVILLE MUSIC MEETUP

Music lovers are invited to connect with fellow enthusiasts and musicians at the next HSV Quarterly Music Meetup on June 23. Hosted by the Huntsville Music Office, the event will run from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Orion Amphitheater. Music Officer Matt Mandrella encourages all those passionate about the local music scene to come network with other Huntsville music fans and learn about an initiative that should be music to attendees’ ears. more 

PUBLIC ART COMPETITION
The City and Arts Huntsville invite local artists to compete for Phase II of the public art plan for the new City Hall. Works by selected artists will be featured across four locations in the new municipal building. Artwork budgets range from $30,000 to $60,000.more

Volunteer time and talent sustain Huntsville's success. Over the coming months, City Blog will feature outstanding municipal volunteers such as Lyle Voyles, a long-standing member and leader of the Chaffee Neighborhood Civic Association and past president of the City of Huntsville's Neighborhood Association.
