I've lived in the River Region for going on 6 years, but I am from Gulf Shores. As a matter of fact, my family owned a seafood restaurant in GS for over 30 years. With that being said, I rarely eat seafood this far north.
Capitol Oyster Bar is one of the few exceptions. Go there knowing that its not cheap, but its less expensive than driving down to the beach. Get the Argentina Shrimp, its going to cost you $25/lb, so order 2 lbs. These little devils are the closest thing to lobster that I have ever come across. Its literally the best thing on the entire menu, and that's saying something!
There is usually great beer on tap, and the nightly specials are always worth considering. If you see a gentlemen in his late 40's shucking (fresh) oysters, tell him that you enjoyed your meal, and he will appreciate it because he owns the joint.
