About:-

In the midst of all of the screaming and cheering of the excited fans, people's minds are taken away from their daily worries during the races at Mobile Greyhound Park. They are focused on having a good time, and picking the day's big winners.

This is the attitude and good time that Maurice "Casey" Downing wanted people to have. With dedication and persistence, Downing made parimutuel greyhound racing possible in Mobile. During his 12 year tenure in the Alabama House of Representatives, Downing fought consistently for greyhound racing in Mobile: County. After several years of trial and error, he finally pushed the greyhound track bill through the Legislature in 1971. The Mobile County voters made the bill a success when they expressed their overwhelming approval in January 1972.

In remembrance of a remarkable man and his outstanding work, Mobile Greyhound Park honors Downing in several ways. Near the entrance of the park hangs a portrait of Downing and a collage of headlines that represent his many efforts and achievements. Even the concession stand features the name of its founder.

The lure that the greyhounds chase also bears his nickname in a phrase that truly represents his character and strong will. Downing will always be loved and cherished for his undying efforts and support of Mobile Greyhound Park.

Because of his works, every night fans cheer and scream when they hear those unforgettable words, "Here Comes Casey."
